Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina / United States
A community-driven nonprofit serving Wrightsville Beach and greater New Hanover County through surfing, goodwill, sportsmanship and sustainability awareness.
The club story.
The official Mission page identifies WBBR as a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit filed in North Carolina and an affiliate of US Board Riders Clubs. Its purpose is to strengthen local surf culture and bring the community together through organized surfing events. The event archive documents activity in 2022. A December 19, 2024 WECT report identifies Ben Bourgeois as one of the founders and says the club had existed for three years. That rounded duration is not treated as an exact founding date. Membership & community.
The Join page links registration to WBBR on LiveHeats. The public rules require a local connection through birth, education, five-plus years of residency or regularly surfing the hometown for direct inland residents.
The Mission page emphasizes sportsmanship, a sustainable environment and community events. Get Involved welcomes surfers with membership questions, local volunteers and sponsor inquiries. The event archive documents surf training, film nights, social events and fundraising for a championship trip.
The beach & break.
Wrightsville Beach / greater New Hanover County
The official event archive names Public Access 32, Access 18, Stone Street and Mercer's Pier for past Wrightsville events. It also includes Carolina Beach and regional away venues. These are dated event locations, not one exclusive home break.
Official beach guideContests & events.
The archive includes 2026 MABR qualifiers and a February 2026 World Club Championship listing in Australia, plus older parties, contests and fundraisers. Its May qualifier line reads "Mary 2nd or 3rd 2026", an apparent source typo, so no precise date is inferred. All specifically dated listings checked are past as of October 2, 2026.
Check the event sourceChecked October 2, 2026. Past events are labeled as past. Dates, entry status and conditions can change.
Athletes & heritage.
The official rules describe seven divisions with four surfers in each, WSL judging and tag-team heats. The event archive includes a movie featuring Cam Richards and friends, but that is not proof of current club-team membership.

Get Involved invites sponsorship inquiries. Past events at Drift, Waterman's, Recon and other venues do not establish ongoing sponsorship.
