The surf program.

The official Waimea school website links a 2025-26 coaching spreadsheet that lists boys and girls surfing, while the generic athletics department page and HHSAA directory omit surfing from their menus. These sources have different coverage; omission is not treated as cancellation. This is the Kauai school at 9707 Tsuchiya Road, not a similarly named Big Island institution.

Joining & eligibility.

The official Athletics Forms page requires a current DOE physical/concussion form and a separate assumption-of-risk consent for each sport and year, submitted to athletic training before participation. It describes the physical as valid for one calendar year. School athletic contract, participation acknowledgement and parent/student concussion-risk education are also listed. No surf-specific open tryout or guaranteed place was verified. Current surf eligibility, grades, tryouts, selection, clearance, water-safety checks, fees, equipment, parent consent and transport need school confirmation. No enrollment, payment or student data is accepted here.

Community & support.

The school states a mission of increasing student opportunities and links an athletics mission, handbook and gender-equity route. These school-wide resources are not proof of a surf-team service project, equipment fund, scholarship or volunteer opening.

The beach & safety.

The campus is not a surf meetup. HHSAA identifies the past May 1-2, 2026 state event at Hookipa Beach on Maui, not a current training venue. Current beach, access, transport, supervision, water skills and ocean-condition decisions must be confirmed by the authorized adult operator. No standing meetup or unsupervised practice is offered here.

Contests & results.

Liveheats lists Waimea HS - Boys (KIF) with 475 and Girls (KIF) with 400 points at the May 2026 state event. These records show dated representation, not full-sized squads or state team titles. The combined leaderboard is not official boys/girls standings.

Coaches & school ties.

The school-linked spreadsheet is titled WHS Coaching Staff 25/26 and lists Clarisse Kauwe for girls surfing and Timothy Saunders for boys surfing. It also names Dino Pabre as athletic director and Alexa McMonagle as athletic trainer, matching HHSAA leadership entries. These dated appointments are not guaranteed for 2026-27. The official Menehune mark is school branding, not a surf endorsement. Student identities and personal contacts are omitted.
