The West Oahu Seariders, with a documented earlier surf-team campaign and boys representation in the inaugural 2026 sanctioned season.

The surf program.

April 2024 Hawaii News Now reporting identifies Beth Matsuda as surf-team founder and coach campaigning for sanctioned school surfing. A September 2025 OIA notice describes the inaugural sanctioned school season and sought a head coach. Earlier club activity and first sanctioned season are different milestones; neither confirms a current appointment or exact founding date. The campus is at 85-251 Farrington Highway.

Joining & eligibility.

The official athletics page provides required forms and videos, including OIA risk education, and directs completed forms to athletic trainers under the bleachers. It links the DOE parent-student athlete handbook, attendance policy and physical-exam information. The September 2025 coach notice had a past deadline and is neither an athlete sign-up nor an active vacancy. Current surf eligibility, grades, tryouts, selection, clearance, water-safety checks, fees, equipment, parent consent and transport need school confirmation. No enrollment, payment or student data is accepted here.

Community & support.

The April 2024 reporting describes advocacy for students to represent their school in a sport they love. The current athletics page states resilience, integrity, strength and excellence. These are dated advocacy and school values, not an active surf fundraiser, community cleanup or gear scheme.

The beach & safety.

The campus is not a surf meetup. HHSAA identifies the past May 1-2, 2026 state event at Hookipa Beach on Maui, not a current training venue. Current beach, access, transport, supervision, water skills and ocean-condition decisions must be confirmed by the authorized adult operator. No standing meetup or unsupervised practice is offered here.

Contests & results.

Liveheats lists Waianae HS - Boys (OIA) with 670 points and a separate Boys Individual (OIA) row with 860 at the May 2026 state event. The individual-tagged score is not added to the team total or treated as another school. The reviewed rows do not prove a girls entry, full squad or team title.

Coaches & school ties.

Beth Matsuda is identified as founder and coach in the April 2024 report, not as a verified current sanctioned-team appointment. The September 2025 OIA recruitment notice is historical. HHSAA identifies Kekoa Kaluhiokalani as athletic director; its training names differ from the school page. The small official seal remains near native size. Student identities and personal contacts are omitted.

Sources & open questions.

Checked October 3, 2026. Public-source profile, not a school endorsement. Old seasons and results remain dated. Current operating details require the school or authorized adult program operator.

Student names, individual student results and personal student contacts are omitted.
