The Hilo Warriors, with school athletics clearance guidance, HHSAA-listed surf coaching and a girls BIIF entry at the 2026 state event.

The surf program.

The official school homepage links its Waiakea Athletics site, which provides leadership, forms and school participation rules. HHSAA lists boys and girls surfing coaching, while the reviewed May event record has a girls entry. These sources do not establish a boys state entry or present team size. The campus is at 155 West Kawili Street, Hilo.

Joining & eligibility.

The school athletics site separates tryout/conditioning forms from documents completed after team selection. It directs the DOE physical and parent/legal-guardian participation, release and risk form to the P-1 athletic-training room. Post-selection steps include the in-person parent meeting, travel authorization, acknowledgement, emergency form and a school booster fee. It also requires digital verification of risk-management and concussion education. Current surf eligibility, grades, tryouts, selection, clearance, water-safety checks, fees, equipment, parent consent and transport need school confirmation. No enrollment, payment or student data is accepted here.

Community & support.

The school athletics site provides codes of conduct for students and spectators, parent-coach communication expectations and a gender-equity route. Those general school supports are not proof of a surf-team cleanup, gear fund, mentoring program or approved volunteer opening.

The beach & safety.

The campus is not a surf meetup. HHSAA identifies the past May 1-2, 2026 state event at Hookipa Beach on Maui, not a current training venue. Current beach, access, transport, supervision, water skills and ocean-condition decisions must be confirmed by the authorized adult operator. No standing meetup or unsupervised practice is offered here.

Contests & results.

Liveheats lists Waiakea HS - Girls (BIIF) with 870 points at the May 2026 state event. This does not verify a boys entry, full squad count or a team title. HHSAA coach listings for both divisions are a different evidence scope. The combined leaderboard is not official girls standings.

Coaches & school ties.

HHSAA lists Adam Escobar under boys and girls surfing. The school-linked athletics site names Kalei Namohala as athletic director, with Donn Yamamoto and Tori Daligcon-Pomaikai in athletics leadership and Sharyn Kodama and Dayton Uyeda in athletic training. These listings require confirmation for the current surf season. The displayed seal is school branding. Student identities and personal contacts are omitted.

Sources & open questions.
