Founded by local surfers in 1964, SSA supports the beach community and environmental work. Its mission is to protect surfing areas, promote surfing and build fellowship among surfers.
The club story.
The association dates its beginnings to 1964. Its official About page describes a nonprofit built around community service, surfing and environmental issues in the Encinitas area.
Membership & community.
Prospective members need a club-member sponsor, attend three club meetings and have their application voted on by the membership. Members are expected to help with meetings, beach cleanups, functions and events. Confirm current dues directly with the club.
The association lists Adopt-a-Beach, school surf teams, student scholarships and the Blind Surf Program among the programs it supports. Its website also describes surfing contests and volunteer work.
The beach & break.
Swami's Beach / Cardiff Reef
The club is based in Encinitas. Swami's Beach is a City of Encinitas beach with parking, restrooms and picnic facilities. Its Return to the Reef contest is held at Cardiff Reef, a separate break from Swami's.
