Famous team wax program
San Clemente High School riders get 20% off Famous products with the team code.
Famous supplies wax to surf clubs and teams. Every team gets its own code: 20% off surf wax, traction and apparel, shared by a coach, captain or club officer. How the program works.
A Tritons school surf program with school-published history and varsity wins at the 2026 NSSA state and national championships.
The surf program.
The school January 2024 welcome book reports boys' and girls' surfing success for 2022-23. That school publication is historical context, not a present tally. The 2026 NSSA state article calls the varsity win its twenty-first state title; the national article calls the 2026 win its seventeenth national title. These event-specific counts stay dated and attributed. Los Angeles Times reporting on June 24, 1999 says Bill Hartman started the surf team in 1977; an April 5, 2017 Orange County Register report independently gives the same launch year. This is a historical team origin, separate from the school founding date. Dated team-history source
Joining & eligibility.
School enrollment and athletic team entry are separate. Championship results do not establish a place on the roster, a tryout timetable or present eligibility. Current grades, academic standards, swim and skill assessments, squad selection, fees, parent consent, equipment and transport require school confirmation.
Community & support.
The welcome book describes a school community with alumni connections and a One Town, One Team identity. It also describes an education foundation focused on academic support; that is not proof of a surf-team funding program.
The beach & safety.
The school welcome book lists 700 Avenida Pico, San Clemente, CA 92673. The 2026 NSSA state event took place at Seaside Reef and nationals at Salt Creek. Those are dated event venues, not current practice instructions. Home break, approved meetup, transport, parking, adult supervision and water-safety arrangements: confirm with the team.
Contests & results.
The 2026 NSSA state results record varsity first with 86 points and junior varsity second with 86. Nationals record first in varsity with 157 and first in junior varsity with 124. Equal point numbers across different divisions do not mean a tied placement. These are specific events, not a current ranking or 2026-27 schedule.
Coaches & school ties.
June 18, 2026 San Clemente Times reporting identifies John Dowell as coach of the surf team at that season's national championships. This is dated adult coaching evidence, not confirmation of a 2026-27 appointment. No individual student results or personal student contacts are reproduced. Adult role source
Sources & open questions.
Checked October 3, 2026. Historical SSS figures reflect the earlier 2025-26 source read. Published SSS workbook links are reused and now show newer 2026-27 grids; those links are not permanent archives or current rankings. Confirm current entries and fixtures with the school and league. Public-source profile, not a school endorsement. Old seasons and results remain dated. Current operating details require the school or authorized adult program operator.
