A Redondo Beach school surf team with school-published tryouts and separate varsity and junior-varsity NSSA state results.

The surf program.

The official school weekly bulletin lists Sea Hawk surf tryouts for shortboarders and longboarders. School newspaper High Tide documented the team at the January 2024 Kickoff Classic in Hermosa Beach. NSSA separately records Redondo Union in the 2026 interscholastic state championships. These sources establish dated activity, not a current roster, founding date or guaranteed team place.

Joining & eligibility.

The August 24-28 bulletin publishes an August 29, 2026 tryout at 7am at Hermosa Beach Pier and a Coach Avery school-email route. The previous September 2025 bulletin gives a different past tryout date. Both are historical by this review, not a new invitation. Current enrollment, grade and school eligibility, selection, swim checks, clearance, fees, equipment, permission and transport: reconfirm through the school. No enrollment is accepted here.

Community & support.

High Tide reported in January 2024 on intrinsic motivation, growth with new team members and the challenge of repeated heats at the Kickoff Classic. This is dated school-community reporting, not a current outcome promise. Individual student identities and quotations are not reproduced.

The beach & safety.

Hermosa Beach Pier is the school-published 2026 tryout point and Hermosa Beach was the January 2024 Kickoff Classic setting. NSSA locates its February 27-March 1, 2026 state event at Seaside Reef in Cardiff. Event sites are not silently treated as a permanent home practice break. Present meeting point, transport, beach access, supervision, conditions decisions and water-safety plan: confirm before attending.

Contests & results.

NSSA published its 2026 state results on March 4. Redondo Union placed fourth in the high school varsity team scoreboard with 44 points and third in the junior-varsity scoreboard with 39 points. These are separate divisions in a dated event, not an overall national rank or current school roster.

Coaches & school ties.

The school bulletin names Coach Avery as the surf contact; January 2024 High Tide reporting identifies surf coach Duncan Avery. The public school route is used without inventing other appointments. Reconfirm current staff and enrollment through the school. The Sea Hawk school mark is from the official school homepage, not a team endorsement. Student names and personal contacts are omitted.

Sources & open questions.

Published SSS workbook links are reused and now show newer 2026-27 grids; those links are not permanent archives or current rankings. Confirm current entries and fixtures with the school and league. Public-source profile, not a school endorsement. Old seasons and results remain dated. Current operating details require the school or authorized adult program operator.

Student names, individual student results and personal student contacts are omitted.
