The surf program.
The official PLHS Surf page describes a Surf Club, juniors and seniors trying out for Surf PE, and grades 9-12 trying out for the surf team. Its detailed August notice links 2024-25 athletic clearance, so those dates are historical, not the next tryout window. The 2025-26 SSS Division 1 table provides later competition evidence.
Joining & eligibility.
The historical 2024-25 notice requires athletic clearance, field-trip permission and a signed surf team/club constitution before progressive tryouts. It describes a run and ocean swim assessment by San Diego lifeguards, followed by surf tryouts. These are older published terms, not confirmed current policy. Current grade routes, selection, clearance, fees, equipment, consent and dates: reconfirm through the current adult coach.
Community & support.
The school surf page encourages student self-advocacy and uses an Aloha message. Those are program tone and educational intent, not verification of a present charity, mentoring, cleanup or equipment-assistance project. No student leaders or personal student contacts are reproduced.
The beach & safety.
The older tryout notice identifies the Ocean Beach swim zone for its run and ocean swim test, and Ocean Beach for subsequent surf assessment. These are historical testing sites, not a permanent practice meetup or current safe-water decision. Present authorized beach, arrival point, transport, parking, access, adult supervision and water-safety plan: confirm with the coach before attending.
Contests & results.
The 2025-26 SSS Division 1 sheet records Point Loma finishing with a 3-2 overall record. It includes a 90-26 win over Torrey Pines and a final 74-63 loss to Carlsbad. These are dated team results, not a current ranking or proof of future selection. The older August tryout dates are not reused as new events.
