The Manoa Owls, with a boys ILH state-event entry and a third-place boys finish reported at the inaugural 2026 ILH championships.

The surf program.

The official school athletics page confirms ILH/HHSAA membership and a Manoa campus at 2445 Kaala Street, Honolulu. April 2026 reporting records the boys third at the ILH championship, while the May state source lists a boys entry. Surfing was not shown in the reviewed public team list, and a search-found head-surf-coach job URL now says the position does not exist. Neither absence proves the program stopped or the role remains vacant.

Joining & eligibility.

The current school athletics page provides an athletics-department route and public team schedule, but no surf-specific signup, open tryout or clearance packet was verified in the reviewed text. School-wide athletics begins younger than high school in some sports, which does not establish surf grade eligibility. Ask school athletics for the current surf pathway; do not use the inactive job listing as an athlete signup. Current surf grades, eligibility, tryouts, selection, clearance, water-safety checks, fees, equipment, consent and transport require school confirmation. No enrollment, payment or student data is accepted here.

Community & support.

The school describes well-rounded student development and broad participation in athletics. Its public athletics page supports school-community recognition of teams. That does not verify a surf-specific fundraiser, cleanup, mentoring scheme or gear grant.

The beach & safety.

The school campus is not a surf meetup. HHSAA identifies the May 1-2, 2026 state event at Hookipa Beach on Maui. This past event is not a current training venue. Current beach, access, transport, supervision, water skills and ocean-condition decisions must be confirmed by the authorized adult operator. No unsupervised practice or standing meetup is offered here.

Contests & results.

April 19, 2026 Spectrum reporting records Mid-Pacific third in the boys ILH championship with 4075 points. Liveheats lists Mid-Pacific Institute - Boys (ILH) with 583 points at the May state event. These are different event scores, not conflicting totals to combine. A boys state entry does not prove a girls entry, full-sized squad or state team title.

Coaches & school ties.

The official staff page names Kena Heffernan as director of athletics, Kerry Wheeler for high-school athletics and Sarah Aoki for middle-school athletics. The HHSAA directory lists Moea DeFries under boys and girls surfing. The search-found head-surf-coach posting resolves to a position-not-found page, so it is not proof of an active vacancy or a staffing change. Current appointment must be confirmed. The official wordmark is institution-wide. Student identities and personal contacts are omitted.

Sources & open questions.

Checked October 3, 2026. Public-source profile, not a school endorsement. Old seasons and results remain dated. Current operating details require the school or authorized adult program operator.

Student names, individual student results and personal student contacts are omitted.
