The Honolulu Tigers, with school-listed girls surfing and a separately labeled boys OIA entry at the inaugural 2026 state event.

The surf program.

The school sports page displays a 2025-26 athletics brochure that lists girls surfing among spring sports. The May 2026 state record separately uses McKinley HS - Boys (OIA). These sources are retained with their different scope rather than assuming an error or merging boys and girls into a full squad. The Honolulu campus is at 1039 South King Street.

Joining & eligibility.

The official athletic-training page requires a physician-signed athletic physical and parent/legal-guardian consent, release and assumption-of-risk form. Medical clearance from both the physician and athletic-training staff is required before organized team activity; forms are reviewed by training staff. The brochure describes varsity grades 9-12, but surf-specific eligibility and selection are not guaranteed. Current surf grades, eligibility, tryouts, selection, clearance, water-safety checks, fees, equipment, consent and transport require school confirmation. No enrollment, payment or student data is accepted here.

Community & support.

The school athletics page stresses moral integrity, social responsibility, cooperation and student growth, with school athletic-training support. That general mission does not verify a surf-team cleanup, equipment fund, mentoring project or approved volunteering opportunity.

The beach & safety.

The school campus is not a surf meetup. HHSAA identifies the May 1-2, 2026 state event at Hookipa Beach on Maui. This past event is not a current training venue. Current beach, access, transport, supervision, water skills and ocean-condition decisions must be confirmed by the authorized adult operator. No unsupervised practice or standing meetup is offered here.

Contests & results.

Liveheats records McKinley HS - Boys (OIA) with 555 points at the May 2026 state event. The school brochure lists girls surfing, a separate source scope that does not prove a girls state entry. This boys event label is not a full squad count or team-title claim, and the combined leaderboard is not official boys standings.

Coaches & school ties.

The school athletics page identifies Bob Morikuni as athletics leadership. The HHSAA directory lists Adam Treine-Aea under girls varsity surfing; that does not verify a boys appointment or the full current surf staff. School confirmation is needed for 2026-27 roles and the boys/girls scope difference. The displayed M is school athletics branding, not a verified surf-team logo. Student identities and personal contacts are omitted.

Sources & open questions.

Checked October 3, 2026. Public-source profile, not a school endorsement. Old seasons and results remain dated. Current operating details require the school or authorized adult program operator.

Student names, individual student results and personal student contacts are omitted.
