Famous team wax program
Mainland Regional High School riders get 20% off Famous products with the team code.
Famous supplies wax to surf clubs and teams. Every team gets its own code: 20% off surf wax, traction and apparel, shared by a coach, captain or club officer. How the program works.
The Linwood Mustangs, with an official co-ed NSSA surf team, pool and ocean-swim screening and documented ties with the local surfing community.
The surf program.
The official Surfing (Co-ed) page describes a competitive NSSA program. A dated Ocean City Sentinel history reports a club beginning about 1977, a later inactive period, a restart by fall 2013 and varsity recognition in 2017-18. These reported milestones are approximate and do not settle an exact founding date. The current page still links a 25-26 schedule.
Joining & eligibility.
The school surf page requires two days of pool training and an ocean swim test before tryouts, describing late-July screening and August selection. It is not a current open invitation after those windows. The school Sports Registration page uses Arbiter, requires season registration and physician-signed medical eligibility uploaded there. Current surf grades, eligibility, tryouts, selection, clearance, ocean safety, fees, equipment, parent consent and transport need confirmation from the school or authorized operator. No enrollment, payment or student data is accepted here.
Community & support.
A June 18, 2025 Ocean City Sentinel account records a school assembly and team discussion with surfer Shaun Tompson, connected through coach Richard Sless. This is dated mentoring and school-community evidence, not a current guest event, sponsorship or volunteer offer.
The beach & safety.
The campus is not a surf meetup. Event entries do not establish a current practice beach, approved access or supervision. The authorized adult operator must confirm the current beach, transport, consent, water skills, weather and ocean-condition decisions. No unsupervised session or standing meetup is offered here.
Contests & results.
The 2025 NSSA Northeast high-school event entry list carries this school affiliation. Entry rows are not converted into current scores or results.
Coaches & school ties.
The official surf page lists Richard Sless; June 2025 local reporting independently identifies him as coach. Older history mentions other adults and former leaders, not a current assistant lineup. Current 2026-27 appointments require school confirmation. The displayed surf-team artwork is embedded on the official school Surfing page. Student identities and personal contacts are omitted.
Sources & open questions.
Checked October 3, 2026. Public-source profile, not a school endorsement. Old seasons and results remain dated. Current operating details require the school or authorized adult program operator.
