The surf program.

Kohala describes a rural public high school founded in 1926, based at 54-3611 Akoni Pule Highway in Kapaau. Its current extracurricular page lists surfing as a spring sport within BIIF/HHSAA athletics. School founding is not a surf-program founding date. The state-event label establishes dated representation, not the size of a team or present sanction.

Joining & eligibility.

The school lists age and residency eligibility, a minimum 2.0 GPA, passing graduation-required courses, attendance and fortnightly grade checks. Required athletics documents include a current physical, concussion management and assumption of risk; the school says a physical is valid for one calendar year. Its official page links athletic forms and a parent/student athlete handbook. Current surf eligibility, grades, tryouts, selection, clearance, water-safety checks, fees, equipment, parent consent and transport must be confirmed with the school. No enrollment, payment or student data is accepted here.

Community & support.

The school describes aina and cultural education, community partners and club-period service and leadership. Those school-wide programs are not evidence of a surf-team cleanup, equipment fund or approved beach-service activity.

The beach & safety.

The school campus is not a surf meetup. HHSAA identifies the May 1-2, 2026 state event at Hookipa Beach on Maui. That past event does not establish a current practice beach. Current beach, access, supervision, transport, water skills and ocean-condition decisions must be confirmed with the authorized adult operator. No standing meetup or unsupervised practice is offered here.

Contests & results.

Liveheats lists Kohala HS - Boys (BIIF) with 360 points at the May 2026 state event. This reviewed boys entry is not proof of a girls state entry, a full-sized squad or a team title. The combined club leaderboard is not relabeled official boys standings.

Coaches & school ties.

The school extracurricular page names B. Kise as temporary athletic director and R. Marquez as athletic trainer. The school-page and directory mismatch stays visible; current surf coach and athletics leadership need school confirmation. The displayed seal is a school mark, not a surf logo.
