The Honolulu Kapalama campus, with dated surf-club history, the inaugural girls ILH title and separate boys and girls state-event entries.

The surf program.

April 19, 2026 Spectrum reporting identifies coach Jason Shibata as a freshman on the newly established Warriors surf club in 1994, and as head coach in the first sanctioned ILH season. The report and April HNN coverage confirm the girls ILH title. Club beginnings and the 2026 sanctioned season are distinct. This is Kapalama in Honolulu, not the Maui or Hawaii campus.

Joining & eligibility.

The current campus athletics site has a 2026-27 all-sport sign-up page. It requires an updated physical via the parent portal and says students must be signed up and cleared before tryouts. Its June notice mentions a 13-month physical window and processing time. No surf-specific closing date was established, so current availability must be checked with athletics. An older search-result sign-up URL now gives a browser 404; the current route is used instead. Current school eligibility, grades, sign-up window, competitive selection, ocean checks, clearance, fees, equipment, parent consent and transport must be confirmed with the authorized adult operator. No enrollment, payment or student data is accepted here.

Community & support.

The dated ILH reporting describes teammates supporting one another and the formal arrival of school surfing. Those observations do not establish a current surf cleanup, charity partner, equipment fund or volunteer program. The campus general sideline store is not treated as a surf sponsor.

The beach & safety.

The April 2026 ILH final took place at Ala Moana Bowls. The May HHSAA event was at Hookipa Beach on Maui. These are dated contest sites, not permanent practice invitations. Present school training beach, meetup, transport, access, supervision and ocean conditions decisions must be confirmed with the campus operator.

Contests & results.

April 2026 Spectrum and HNN reporting confirm Kamehameha Kapalama won the girls ILH team title; Punahou won the boys title. Liveheats separately lists Kapalama Girls (ILH) with 3,003 points and Boys (ILH) with 1,870 at the May 1-2 state event. The girls-individual row is not added. ILH and HHSAA results are not merged or promoted into a state title.

Coaches & school ties.

The April 19, 2026 Spectrum report names Jason Shibata as head coach in the first sanctioned season. This is dated independent reporting, not proof of a new 2026-27 appointment. Reconfirm through Kapalama athletics. The official campus athletics site displays the running Warrior mark. School artwork is a school mark only, not a surf-team endorsement. Student identities and personal contacts are omitted.

Sources & open questions.

Checked October 3, 2026. Public-source profile, not a school endorsement. Old seasons and results remain dated. Current operating details require the school or authorized adult program operator.

Student names, individual student results and personal student contacts are omitted.
