A Hilo school with official March 2026 surf competition news, later state-event entries and a historical coach vacancy not treated as still open.

The surf program.

The school published a surf head-coach hiring notice on July 3, 2025 and a first BIIF meet result on March 9, 2026. March 11 Hawaii Tribune-Herald reporting supplies a named coach and competition context. Later boys and girls state-event entries show representation, not a current roster or an unresolved hiring vacancy.

Joining & eligibility.

The official March news confirms surf participation but does not publish a complete current tryout policy. The July 2025 job notice is not a student enrollment route and is not assumed still open. Current school eligibility, grades, sign-up window, club versus competition selection, swimming checks, clearance, fees, equipment, parent consent and transport must be confirmed with the authorized adult operator. No enrollment, payment or student data is accepted here.

Community & support.

The official school congratulates its team at the inaugural BIIF meet. March reporting describes cooperation among athletes, organizers, judges and the surf community. Those are dated event accounts, not guaranteed staffing, an open volunteering place or a surf-team charity.

The beach & safety.

March 2026 reporting places the first BIIF contest at Honolii; the school describes a large swell at that event. Neither a past contest nor its conditions is a current safety endorsement or practice invitation. HHSAA places the May state event at Hookipa Beach on Maui. Present home break, meetup, transport, beach access, adult supervision and conditions decisions: confirm through athletics.

Contests & results.

The March 9 official school post reports first places in bodyboard and shortboard at the initial BIIF meet. Those individual results are not a team title. Liveheats later lists Hilo Boys (BIIF) with 1,250 points and Girls (BIIF) with 360 at the May 1-2 event; separate entries are not added into an invented combined score or labeled official team placement.

Coaches & school ties.

March 11, 2026 newspaper reporting names Diesel Butts as Hilo High coach. The July 2025 school hiring notice predates that reporting and is not treated as a currently vacant post. Reconfirm current appointments through school athletics. The official Hilo High Vikings wordmark is used, not a surf endorsement. Student identities and personal contacts are omitted.

Sources & open questions.

Checked October 3, 2026. Public-source profile, not a school endorsement. Old seasons and results remain dated. Current operating details require the school or authorized adult program operator.

Student names, individual student results and personal student contacts are omitted.
