A Makawao high school program where surfing is explicitly offered among MIL team sports, distinct from the schools Kula campus.

The surf program.

The official Haleakala Waldorf athletics page lists surfing among its Maui Interscholastic League team sports. The high school Kaluanui campus is at 38 Kaluanui Road in Makawao; the separate Kealahou campus is in Kula. A general school campus listing is not silently used as the high school location. Liveheats records a boys MIL state-event entry.

Joining & eligibility.

The school describes physical fitness and athletics as part of its curriculum, but does not establish a current surf tryout or enrollment policy in the reviewed page. Recreational ocean activities and competitive selection are not assumed identical. Current school eligibility, grades, sign-up window, club versus competition selection, swimming checks, clearance, fees, equipment, parent consent and transport must be confirmed with the authorized adult operator. No enrollment, payment or student data is accepted here.

Community & support.

The official athletics page emphasizes character, teamwork, sportsmanship and balance with academics, arts, family and community. These are school program aims, not guaranteed surf-team outcomes.

The beach & safety.

The Makawao campus address is not a surf practice location. HHSAA locates its May 2026 state event at Hookipa Beach on Maui. Neither a school campus nor an event venue establishes a current authorized home break. Present beach, meetup, transport, parking, access, supervision and conditions decisions: confirm with the school operator.

Contests & results.

Liveheats lists Haleakala Waldorf School Boys (MIL) with 555 points at the May 1-2, 2026 state event. Event representation does not establish a full-sized squad or a girls entry. The combined club leaderboard is not promoted as official boys team placement or a season ranking.

Coaches & school ties.

January 23, 2026 Maui Now reporting identifies Jason Ward as this school's surfing coach in coverage of the January 18 ocean-safety clinic. This is dated adult coaching evidence, not proof of a 2026-27 head-coach appointment or current ocean-supervision assignment. Reconfirm current roles through school athletics. Dated coaching source

No current named surf head coach was established in the reviewed official athletics and campus pages. School athletics is the adult verification route rather than an inferred staff appointment. The official Haleakala Waldorf school wordmark is used, not a surf-team endorsement. Student identities and personal contacts are omitted.

Sources & open questions.

Checked October 3, 2026. Public-source profile, not a school endorsement. Old seasons and results remain dated. Current operating details require the school or authorized adult program operator.

Student names, individual student results and personal student contacts are omitted.
