Famous Tropical Surf Wax is a topcoat for surfing in water 78°F (26°C) and up. It's our hardest topcoat, a paraffin-based formula that won't melt into a smear in hot water and sun, with a beady texture for grip and a UV inhibitor. Made in California by Famous Surf since 2002.

How to apply

FAQ

Where is tropical surf wax used?
Anywhere the water is 78°F (26°C) or warmer, such as Hawaii, Florida in summer, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and Indonesia.

Why does water temperature matter?
Wax that's too hard for the water won't grip, and wax that's too soft melts and smears. Tropical is the hardest topcoat, so it keeps its bumps in hot water.

What if I'm between two temperature ranges?
The softer formula grips more, and the harder one holds up better if the day warms up. Plenty of surfers carry both.

Do I need basecoat?
On a new or freshly stripped board, yes. Basecoat is harder and builds the bumps your topcoat sticks to, so your wax lasts longer.
